Fine Oak Flooring supplied and installed engineered oak flooring in this beautifully, newly-built house in Horsham, East Sussex.
Few months ago we took on a project that we knew once our flooring installed the whole room would come together as a beautiful picture.
Our clients’ desire was to have traditionally looking wide plank oak flooring installed in their newly designed open plan Kitchen/Family room and a small Entrance Hall. The flooring was chosen with great care to compliment the look of the classic English Kitchen.
With its wirebrushed, textured surface, Smoked oak from our Colonial Collection was selected. It offers plenty of characteristic features of oak without looking too rustic adding timeless elegance to this open plan living space.
It was with great pleasure last week, that I saw the owners enjoying their home as I walked around taking few shots for the website. The mix of classic features of Kitchen and the traditional looking oak flooring give the space a homely feeling.
The combination of three elements including the large open plan area, the underfloor heating and the choice of wide planks, determined to install engineered rather than solid floorboards in this project.
Engineered oak floorboards installed in this project are 20mm thick with 5mm wirebrushed solid oak wear layer and 225mm wide smoked and finished with a high quality Osmo UV cured oil.
The flooring was acclimatised on site for a week before the installation took place. Concrete slabs were cleaned of dirt and primed with Sika Primer MB. The primer is also used for consolidation of the weak substrate, adhesive promotion and also as a damp proofing layer on concrete subfloors.
Engineered oak flooring was then fully bonded to the treated concrete subfloor with Sikabond 54 Wood Floor adhesive. The Sikabond 54 is a high quality fast curing elastic adhesive, suitable to use with under floor heating. The elasticity of this adhesive reduces stress transfer between the wood floor and the substrate.
